Diarmuid is working with secondary schools such as St Brendans in Killarney and Belvedere in Dublin to assist in the myriad of struggle facing the next generation.

The work takes place far away from the classroom and in the less comfortable confines of the woods but it deals very specifically with disconnection from self, family and friends and place.

Leaning in to aspects of Rites of Passage, the aim to create the conditions where the young men and women get a chance to:

  • Communicate with each other more openly, teasing out their primary challenges through the facilitation process;
  • Spend a day, or do an overnight, immersed in nature building resilience, preparedness and self responsibility;
  • Honour their parents contribution to their lives up to that point in a shared event including parents;
  • Sit around the fire and share in their creativity encouraging them to lean in to the awkward parts of performance
  • Learn to cook on a fire, prepare meals and how to adhere to a zero waste policy.
